IUML to launch Dalit League

Coimbatore, July 25 (PTI) The Indian Union Muslim League's Tamil Nadu unit has decided to launch a 'Dalit League', as an "increasing number" of people belonging to the community were joining the IUML.

"Being a major step to widen party's base, the issue will be discussed and ratified at the party's state executive meet, slated in Courtalam on August 1," IUML's all India general secretary, Prof Khader Moideen told reporters here.

Moideen said the party, which was seeking a limited number of seats from the DMK alliance, would concentrate on 25 of the 234 Assembly constituencies, which have a Muslim population of over 40,000 "to increase their bargaining power" Of the 25 constituencies, six to seven have a Muslim population of over 60,000.
