Social activist Teesta Setalvad on Sunday said politicians and activists who are fighting against corruption, also need to come out against social injustice done to minority communities like Muslims and Christians.
She was addressing Dalit Muslim Arakshan Mahasammelan, organised by All India United Muslim Morcha, at Jyotiba Phule Maidan in Lucknow.
She said not giving the Scheduled Castes status to dalit Muslims and Christians was injustice to them and demanded inclusion of dalit Muslims in Scheduled Castes. She also reiterated her demand for passage of Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill.
Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh, who was present at the sammelan, said he would urge the Prime Minister for giving the Scheduled Caste status to dalit Muslims. Criticising Chief Minister Mayawati for not fixing sub-quota for backward Muslims in state OBC quota, Singh promised that 8 per cent quota will be fixed for backward Muslims if Congress came to power in UP.
